Academic Tranformation

Academic Transformation
My friend is failing the geometry lesson on 2 and 3 dimensional shapes. To help him get a better grade in his class, I would ask him to consider the following:
1.       What are your weaknesses and what are your strengths? In the Academic Transformation, we are told to assess our academic situation and to see what is stopping us from achieving our goals. By doing this, my friend, Tommy, can get a better understanding on and what he is good at and what he needs to work on.

2.       After my friend considers his academic situation, he should then set goals based on what he wants to achieve in this class. Whether he has external forces that are stopping him or bad study habits that need to change, he should set short or long-term goals based on those academic situations. Maybe he needs to study more often or maybe he needs to step away from a relationship for a while. Whatever the case might be, he needs to set those goals to achieve in his classwork.

3-4.      The next thing I’d have my friend to consider is working to accomplish those objectives. You can’t get out what you don’t put in. So maybe he does need to study more. As a friend, I’d admonish him to get a planner and write down the specific days he needs to study. Part of being a diligent student is taking the time out to learn what you don’t already know. I’d even tell him to go join a study group, and to stick with it until he sees a change in his grades.

5.       After weeks of hard work and intentional studying, I’d have my friend track his learning growth to see where he is. Maybe he finally made an A on that lesson he failed or maybe he still needs a little bit more work. Whatever the case might be, he should check his growth to see where is and what he needs to continue to work on. Checking your progress could even start to build up your self-confidence, and when it comes to learning, confidence goes a long way.

6.       If the planner is not working for him and he’s still not seeing the growth that he desires, then I’d tell him to take a step back and see if there’s anything that needs to be adjusted. Maybe his time to study is all wrong and needs to be adjusted. Whatever the case might be, it has up to him to make those necessary adjustments to better succeed in his learning endeavors.
